Your Safety is Our Top Priority
Our Response to the Coronavirus Outbreak

The safety of our valued customers and employees is our top priority.  Atlas Air Worldwide is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and taking all precautions to ensure the safety of our operations around the world.

We wanted to make you aware of steps we are taking to ensure the most efficient and rapid response as this situation evolves.

We are in direct and frequent contact with the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of State, and are closely following their guidance and protocol.  This includes a particular focus on aircraft and crew travelling through areas identified by the CDC with an Alert/Warning Level 2/3 travel notice.

We have activated our Emergency Response Planning team and are meeting regularly to ensure we are both reacting to current needs, as well as proactively planning for potential future needs.   We are taking the following measures across the operations:

We have enhanced cleaning on all aircraft that is supplemental to our standard cleaning procedures.  Any hard surface touched by customers and employees—including lavatories, galleys, tray tables, window shades and armrests—receive a thorough wipe-down with a high-grade disinfectant and multi-purpose cleaner before and after each flight.

Cockpit Disinfection: All cockpit areas are being disinfected by maintenance personnel in accordance with Boeing guidance.

Aircraft Heavy Cleaning: All aircraft arriving from areas identified by a Level 2/3 CDC travel notice will also have a heavy cleaning performed at the first station of arrival. A detailed checklist of cleaning actions is performed by qualified cleaning personnel and is presented to the flight crew as proof the cleaning and disinfection was completed in the cabin.

In addition to the aircraft cleaning procedures detailed above, full safety kits are given to each crewmember and are stocked on all aircraft. This includes masks, rubber gloves, and individual alcohol wipes for sanitizing purposes.  We issue frequent hygiene reminders to all crewmembers to encourage frequent handwashing, and to avoid touching face.

We have implemented health monitoring in accordance with the joint CDC/FAA guidance, which recommends the following precautions for 14 days following travel to, from, or within areas identified by a Level 2/3 CDC travel notice:

  • A thermometer is provided to every crewmember, with instructions to take their temperature twice a day, and watch for symptoms (fever, cough or difficulty breathing).
  • The Atlas Air Pilot Support Group contacts every crewmember to confirm they have not experienced symptoms.  If any symptoms are detected, the crewmember will be immediately self-quarantined with Atlas Air monitoring and providing support.

As we continue with our operations, we are proud to play a critical role in transporting passengers and keeping the global supply chain moving amidst this challenging time.

We appreciate the partnership of our customers, and thank them for sharing in our commitment to safety.
