| Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. Reports Preliminary August System Statistics and Traffic Results
August Block Hours Up 10.2%, Year-To-Date Hours Up 8.7% |
Thursday, September 29, 2005 -- Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (AAWW) (OTC: AAWW.PK), a leading provider of global air cargo services, today reported preliminary system statistics and traffic results for August 2005 and for the eight-month period ended August 31, 2005. Results for the reported periods reflect AAWW's active efforts to maximize profit and minimize risk by optimizing the allocation of available capacity among the Company's four service types in line with prevailing business opportunities and market conditions. Total block-hour activity during August increased 10.2% compared with the same month in 2004, while the average number of aircraft operated increased 6.5%. Block hours operated in the ACMI segment increased 26.2% year over year, while Military Charter segment hours increased 28.3% and Commercial Charter segment hours rose 65.1%. Within the Scheduled Service business segment, traffic (as measured by revenue ton miles “RTM's”) decreased 22.2% year over year, while capacity (as measured by available ton miles “ATM's”) decreased 21.9% year over year, resulting in a load factor of 65.5% in August compared with 65.7% in August 2004. During August, AAWW operated an average of 39.0 widebody 747 aircraft compared with an average of 36.6 in August 2004. Total block-hour activity for the eight months ended August 31, 2005, increased 8.7% versus the eight months ended August 31, 2004, while the average number of aircraft operated rose 4.2%. Block hours operated in the ACMI segment rose 34.3% during the first eight months of 2005, while Military Charter segment hours increased 26.1% and Commercial Charter segment hours grew 76.4%. Within the Scheduled Service business segment, traffic decreased 27.7% (in RTM terms) versus the eight months ended August 31, 2004, and capacity (in ATM's) decreased 30.7%, resulting in an increased load factor of 65.2% for the 2005 period compared with 62.4% for the 2004 period.
For the eight months ended August 31, 2005, AAWW operated an average of 39.1 widebody 747 aircraft versus an average of 37.5 aircraft in the first eight months of 2004.
